Sufism

A bright sign can still lead the heart astray, and that is what the test is for. The fault it hunts is a love that chases wonders and forgets the One they point toward. The cure is to ask, honestly, where a thing is really pulling the heart, and refuse whatever pulls it from God however dazzling.

Even here God is close. The test is a mirror held up so the heart sees its own true bent, and the love asked for is total because nothing partial survives so bright a lure.

Live Deuteronomy 13:3 today

  1. Think of something you follow because it moves you, a voice, an account, a feed, a teacher. Ask plainly where it has been pulling your heart over the last month, and be honest even if the answer costs you something you enjoy.
  2. With a friend, talk about something you both find impressive and ask each other what it is actually making you want. Two people can usually see one another's pull before they see their own.
  3. When something lands on your screen today that gives you a rush and a certainty at the same time, wait before sharing or deciding. Strong feeling is not proof of direction.

What has been pulling me lately, and where does it actually end up taking me?

Vivid visions in meditation are given a name, makyo, and the instruction is to pass them by without making a shrine of them. Impressive experiences are not the point.

When a strong impression hits, do not go along with it right away. Stop and test where it is actually pulling you before you hand it your assent.
