Deuteronomy 22:20 Meaning But If This Thing Is True

But if this thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young lady,

What does Deuteronomy 22:20 mean?

The tokens of virginity are the signs that the inner soul-substance was kept pure, the receptive mind held free of thought and ready to receive. Their absence in the damsel is read exactly as the plain words run: the sign is not found, and so the receptive consciousness did not stay clear.

The tokens of virginity are the signs that the inner soul-substance was kept pure, the receptive mind held free of thought and ready to receive. Their absence in the damsel is read exactly as the plain words run: the sign is not found, and so the receptive consciousness did not stay clear. It has already been given over to the crowding of thought and appetite, and a mind full of noise cannot conceive the Christ child within.

The damsel is that receptive consciousness itself, not the emotions but the quiet inner ground where higher life takes root. Virgin consciousness means a mind emptied of its own chatter, and when the tokens fail, that emptiness was never there. The harsh law over a woman's body is the outer shell; the inner reading is a mind that could not hold the stillness required to bring forth what is holy.

Live Deuteronomy 22:20 today

  1. Give yourself ten minutes today with no input at all, no podcast, no scroll, no music. Let the mind stay empty on purpose and see what quietly arrives in the space.
  2. In your next conversation, listen without preparing your reply. Keep the inner room clear while the other person is still talking, and answer from what actually came in.
  3. Before a meeting or a hard call, take three slow breaths and set down what you walked in carrying. A crowded mind cannot take in what is actually happening in the room.

What have I filled myself with that leaves no room for anything new?
