Deuteronomy 32:10 Meaning He Found Him in a Desert Land

He found him in a desert land, in the waste howling wilderness. He surrounded him. He cared for him. He kept him as the apple of his eye.

What does Deuteronomy 32:10 mean?

The desert and the howling wilderness are the barren state of a man who does not yet know that his own imagination is God, a life that feels empty and unguided. He is found there not by an outside deity but by that very power waking to itself, which then leads him about through the wandering of experience and instructs him by what he lives through.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The desert and the howling wilderness are the barren state of a man who does not yet know that his own imagination is God, a life that feels empty and unguided. He is found there not by an outside deity but by that very power waking to itself, which then leads him about through the wandering of experience and instructs him by what he lives through. Nothing that happens to him is waste; each turn is the teaching.

To be kept as the apple of his eye is to be held at the exact center of God's attention, cherished and never dropped, because you and that divine imagination are one being working out your own salvation. The wilderness is not punishment. It is the school. The one led through the empty land is being taught, life by life, that the I AM in him is the only guide he was ever seeking.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Finding happens in the wilderness because nowhere else is a man empty enough to be found. In the marketplace he is occupied, surrounded by faces that keep confirming him; in the wasteland the ego has nothing left to feed on, and the howling is the mind screaming as its supports fall away.

That desolation gets misread as abandonment. What encircles a man there is the awareness that was always underneath the noise, nearer to him than the pupil of his own eye, and it has been keeping him long before he turned to look.

Live Deuteronomy 32:10 today

  1. Take the part of your life that feels most empty right now and ask what it has been teaching you rather than what it has cost you. Write one plain sentence of the answer.
  2. When someone you care about is in a flat, going nowhere stretch, do not rush to fix it. Stay with them in it and say you believe this part counts too.
  3. In the middle of a day that is all friction, traffic, errors, a meeting that goes sideways, stop and take the friction as the lesson. Ask what it is showing you, then carry on.

What if the empty stretch I want out of is the exact place I am being taught?

Zen

The hardest stretch of the road is the teaching itself, not an interruption of it. A student who waits for the lesson to begin misses the one already running.

Sufism · Rumi

The wound is the place the light reaches you. What felt like being abandoned in a dry country was being led.

The one you are looking for is seated in your own heart, closer than any help from outside. He has never let go of you, even in the confusion.
