Deuteronomy 32:18 Meaning Of the Rock Who Became Your Father

Of the Rock who became your father, you are unmindful, and have forgotten God who gave you birth.

What does Deuteronomy 32:18 mean?

The Rock that begat a man is his own imagination, the power that first gave him form and shapes every circumstance he meets. A people had forgotten this and turned to carved gods, and the charge against them is forgetfulness of the source within.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The Rock that begat a man is his own imagination, the power that first gave him form and shapes every circumstance he meets. A people had forgotten this and turned to carved gods, and the charge against them is forgetfulness of the source within. To forget the Rock is to believe the outer world makes itself. Events seem to arrive from elsewhere and happen to a person. They do not. Every condition begins as an inner state, a mood accepted and dwelt in until it appears as fact. The one who forgets this hands his life over to chance. The one who remembers holds a quiet knowledge that consciousness is the only creator, and that what forms a life was formed from within.

Live Deuteronomy 32:18 today

  1. When something lands on you today and your first thought is that it came out of nowhere, pause and look for the mood you have been living in lately. Sit with the source instead of the event.
  2. Next time a conversation turns to how unfair things are, do not argue, and do not join in either. Quietly keep hold of the fact that your own inner state is doing the making.
  3. Under pressure, when it feels like the day is running you, stop for ten seconds and say inwardly that the cause is in here, not out there. Then set the inner state you want and go back in.

Have I been living as though the world makes itself?

The same truth in other traditions

Dhammapada

All that we are arises from what we have thought. What looks like something happening to a person was built by him long before it arrived.

Tao Te Ching

There is a source out of which everything comes, and a person who forgets it thinks the world makes itself. Returning to the root is the whole of wisdom.

Yoga Vasistha

The mind creates the world it then complains about. Remember the maker and the complaint changes shape.
