SUFISM
Faqr: Poverty before God Faqr is the recognition that a person holds nothing on their own. Counting up numbers, land, and strength keeps that recognition buried, and a people can feel large while feeling entirely on their own. Once someone sees how little they carry, calling out stops being the last resort and becomes the first move.
Duʿāʾ: Calling on God Duʿāʾ is asking, out loud or in silence, from wherever you happen to be. The Prophet called asking the heart of worship, which settles the worry that requests are a lesser form of prayer. Most people save their calling for emergencies, and the habit of asking about small things is what keeps closeness felt rather than merely believed.
I am near, I answer the one who calls on Me: the reply comes with the nearness God says this in the Quran, and Sufis return to it constantly. Anyone praying wonders at some point whether the words went anywhere, or whether better words would work better. The promise ties the answer to the calling itself, so being heard never depends on getting the phrasing right.
Nearer than the jugular vein: no distance to cross The Quran places God closer to a person than their own pulse. When people feel far off, they usually imagine a gap that has to be traveled, and all their effort goes into the traveling. The gap sits in attention instead, so turning takes no journey; a person simply becomes aware of who was already there.
Uns: Being at ease with God Uns is the warmth of being around someone who is close by. Junayd and al-Ghazali use it for the state of a person who stops bracing before they speak. People who deal with distant, unreachable powers learn to address them formally, hedging every sentence in case it lands badly. Living beside someone takes that strain out, and the asking turns into ordinary speech.
