Cybernetics

A self-image built on approval never rests, because the next test can always take the approval away. Here acceptance arrives before any test is passed. A person is counted worthy first, on no ledger of good deeds, and that settled standing becomes the picture he carries into every room.

The machinery of a life runs on that picture. When a man believes he is already welcome, he stops auditioning and starts living, and his warmth toward others flows without strain. The favor rests on being held inside one who is loved, a place given rather than won. That is what it means to be accepted before you have proven anything.

SUFISM

Sufism

The favor here is a gift, not wages. A person who keeps a private ledger of what his good deeds have earned him has spoiled them with a quiet pride, turning worship into a bill he expects paid. The cure is to give in secret and let the account close.

See how the gift arrives only in the Beloved. Light reaches a room only through a window, and this grace reaches anyone only through the One in whom love already rests. The praise loops back to its source, so what is received becomes, again, something given away.

Live Ephesians 1:6 today

  1. Before a meeting or a call today, give up the small performance you usually run. You are not interviewing for a seat you already have.
  2. Walk into one room today without scanning it to see how you are landing. Ask someone a real question instead and listen like you have nothing to prove.
  3. When a message or a piece of feedback lands badly, feel it, then remember the verdict on you was not up for a vote today. Reply from steady rather than from the scramble.

How much of my day goes to proving something that was already given to me?

Zen

You are perfect as you are, and you could use a little improvement. Both at once. The acceptance is not held back until the improvement arrives.

Christian mysticism · Julian of Norwich

The love that holds you was never a response to your performance, and it does not thin out when you fail. All shall be well because of what holds you, not what you manage.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Your worth does not sit in the hands of other people's opinions. A person who stops auditioning for the crowd finally has attention left over to be kind to them.
