You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins,

What does Ephesians 2:1 mean?

Most people are alive and do not know it. They move through their days lost in thought, reacting on old habit, never feeling the living presence that is their own being.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Most people are alive and do not know it. They move through their days lost in thought, reacting on old habit, never feeling the living presence that is their own being. This is what it means to be dead while walking: not the body, but the awareness in you, asleep.

To be made alive is nothing you achieve; it is an awakening. Something in you stirs and suddenly you are here, feeling the aliveness of this moment. The trespasses and sins were only symptoms of the sleep. When presence returns you are simply awake, and the deadness was only unconsciousness lifting.

Live Ephesians 2:1 today

  1. On your first walk today, to the car, the kitchen, the bus stop, let your attention drop into your feet and the air on your skin for thirty seconds. No thinking about it. Just feel that you are here and alive.
  2. The next time someone speaks to you, put the phone face down and listen with your whole body instead of half listening while you plan your reply. You will feel the difference immediately, and so will they.
  3. When you get the stressful message or the bad news today, pause before you react. Feel one breath go all the way in and all the way out. Then answer from there, not from the old reflex.

Where in my day am I most asleep, moving on habit and never actually present?
