Ephesians 3:19 Meaning And to Know Christ’s Love Which Surpasses

and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

What does Ephesians 3:19 mean?

There is a love so wide that no amount of thinking reaches its far edge, and the mind that insists on measuring it only tires itself out. The fault is a quiet pride, the wish to master God with the understanding before trusting Him.

There is a love so wide that no amount of thinking reaches its far edge, and the mind that insists on measuring it only tires itself out. The fault is a quiet pride, the wish to master God with the understanding before trusting Him. The cure is to stop grasping and let oneself be filled, the way a cup fills not by clever effort but by being held under the spring.

To know this love is less like solving it than standing in it, so that the fullness pouring in is God showing Himself in the very heart that hoped to figure Him out.

Live Ephesians 3:19 today

  1. Take one walk today with your phone in your pocket and no podcast in your ears. You are not working anything out, just letting something be larger than your explanation of it.
  2. In the next real conversation, let someone finish without you forming your reply. Being understood is not the same as being figured out, and you can give that to a person before you give them your opinion.
  3. When a problem will not come apart no matter how hard you push at it, stop pushing for one hour. Hold the cup under the water instead of trying to squeeze the water out of the air.

Where are you trying to understand something you would be better off standing inside?

The way that can be put into words is not the way itself. The naming reaches a certain distance and then stops, while the thing named goes on.

Teachings are a finger pointing at the moon. Stare at the finger and study it carefully, and you still have not looked up.

The answer given about the deepest reality is not this, not that, since every description fences it in. It is known by standing in it, not by closing in on it.
