Psychoanalysis

An old pattern hides in these words. What is whole in a person rises only after it has gone down into the darker, hidden layers of the mind. Down there live the forces that quietly run a life: old fears, inherited images, the parts of the self one will not own. To lead captivity captive is to face them, so that what once ruled you is now held by you.

The energy trapped in those forces is not lost when they are mastered. A person who stops being driven from below receives it back as new capacity and can give it to others. That returned energy, shared, is the gift.

Live Ephesians 4:8 today

  1. Name the fear that has been quietly running your day: the email you will not open, the call you keep postponing. Write it down in plain words, because a named thing stops steering from behind.
  2. Tell one person about something you came through, not the tidy version but the real one. What you faced becomes useful to someone else only once you say it.
  3. Next time you feel the old reflex rise, the snap in traffic, the defensive reply, pause for one breath and choose. The energy that would have gone into the reaction is suddenly yours to spend elsewhere.

What has been running your life from a place you have never looked?

Knowing others is clever. Knowing yourself is the real light, and mastering yourself is the real strength. The power you gain that way nobody gave you and nobody can take.

The one who has conquered himself has won a greater victory than any soldier who takes a city. That victory is the only kind that does not have to be defended.

The wound is the place the light enters. What you go down into and finally face becomes the thing you can carry back up for others.
