Ephesians 6:7 · World English Bible
with good will doing service as to the Lord, and not to men,
Ikhlāṣ: Sincerity Ikhlāṣ names one aim in the heart with nothing else mixed into it. Work done for another person slides easily into work done for their approval, until the approval becomes the whole point.
From the Sufism reading below.
The same verse, read by one tradition.

SUFISM
Ikhlāṣ: Sincerity Ikhlāṣ names one aim in the heart with nothing else mixed into it. Work done for another person slides easily into work done for their approval, until the approval becomes the whole point. With God as the one being served underneath, the task stays the same but stops rising and falling with who happens to be watching.
Riyāʾ: Showing off Riyāʾ, which al-Ghazali treated as a hidden fault inside good deeds, means working for the eyes of other people. The pull is familiar: effort climbs when someone important walks past, then drops off when the room empties. Once a person catches that pull in themselves, the effort can settle at one steady level, watched or not.
Iḥsān: Doing the work beautifully The Prophet described iḥsān as serving God as though you could see Him. Working under someone else, the standard tends to drift down to whatever passes inspection, and corners get cut wherever nobody checks. Under a gaze that misses nothing, the unchecked parts get the same care as the parts somebody counts.
ʿUbūdiyya: Servanthood Ibn Arabi treats being God's servant as the highest thing a person can be. Taking orders from another human can feel like belonging to them, and resentment grows quietly inside that feeling. When the deeper belonging is to God, the orders stop deciding who you are, and the resentment loses its footing.
Riḍā: Glad acceptance Riḍā means a yes to your circumstances with no grudge hidden under it. Work can be done at arm's length, hands moving while something inside refuses, and the refusal makes every hour heavier. When the circumstances are taken as coming from God rather than imposed by a person, the yes goes all the way down and the hours lighten.
Sufism lens
Where am I doing good work only because someone is checking?
Act because the act is right, not for the fruit it hands you. Work offered up stops being a trade and starts being free.
Washing rice and sweeping the floor are the whole of practice, done with full attention and no audience. A small task carried out completely is not smaller than a great one.
You cannot choose your role, only how well you play it. The dignity is in the playing, not in who assigned the part.
