Esther 6:6 Meaning So Haman Came in

So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”

A question that already contains its answer will hand you the confidence to build your own humiliation.

A question asked silently of the self is an order, not a search, and the mind fills it with whatever the asker wants true. Years of running one primary question, who here holds him highest, train the mind to return flattering evidence only, so a fatal misread of the room feels like clear sight.

Certainty from that loop produces bold action, which is why the design comes out so lavish and why he ends up leading it through the street for another man. Comfort is what a person buys by never asking a question capable of proving them wrong, and the bill comes due the moment the name is spoken.

Live Esther 6:6 today

  1. When you catch yourself certain about what someone meant in a text or email, write the other reading underneath it. Then ask them plainly instead of acting on your version.
  2. In your next conversation, ask one question you honestly cannot predict the answer to, and stay quiet long enough to get it. Resist finishing their sentence in your head.
  3. In a meeting where you are sure you are right, say the thing that would change your mind out loud and invite someone to make that case. Comfort is what you buy by never letting anyone test you.

What have you not asked lately because you were afraid of the answer?

Zen

A cup already full takes in nothing. Walking in with the answer is the same as walking in deaf.

Socrates · Plato's Apology

His whole method rested on knowing he did not know, and he kept asking until his own position cracked. Anyone who only asks questions they can already answer learns nothing and feels brilliant.

Tao Te Ching 71

To know that you do not know is strength. To take your assumption for knowledge is the beginning of the fall.
