Exodus 10:23 Meaning They Didn’t See One Another
They didn’t see one another, and nobody rose from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

Exodus 10:23 · World English Bible
They didn’t see one another, and nobody rose from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
A darkness so thick that no one could see a neighbor, and no one could move. Such is what a mind lost in fear becomes, each person walled into private gloom, frozen in place, unable to reach across to another.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.
The same verse, read by 3 traditions.

EGO & BEING
A darkness so thick that no one could see a neighbor, and no one could move. Such is what a mind lost in fear becomes, each person walled into private gloom, frozen in place, unable to reach across to another. The dark was not only in the sky but in the blindness of separation, of being sealed inside one's own troubled thoughts.
Yet the homes stayed bright. The image holds a quiet promise: even in the deepest dark, an inner room stays lit. Where a person carries an awake stillness within, the surrounding gloom cannot enter.

ESOTERIC
The darkness that blinds one people while another glows is the split between the outer sense-driven mind and the awakened self within the same skull. Egypt is the body ruled by the senses, and its people cannot see because sight turned outward finds only surfaces; the children of Israel carry light in their dwellings because the God-spark within, the isis of spirit and ra of mind meeting the el of the divine, kindles a lamp no outer blackness can reach. The number 3 is the span of dying to the old state and rising into a new one, so the 3 days without motion are the still passage a person crosses when the outward eyes go dark and the inner light is all that remains.
When the senses fall silent and nothing outside can be seen, the melatonin light in the head keeps burning in its own room, and the one sitting in stillness rises from that darkness already changed.
Egypt: the body governed by the 5 outward senses, which see only surfaces Israel: isis the spirit, ra the mind, and el the God within, joined as the awakened self Light: the melatonin glow kindled in the head, the inner lamp that darkness cannot reach 3 days: the passage of dying to an old state and rising into new life

SUFISM
The same darkness fell on every house, yet one people had light where they lived. It is tempting to credit their own goodness for the difference, and that quiet self-congratulation is a rust on the heart; the cure is to remember the light was given, not made, and to thank rather than boast.
The plague that froze a nation became, next door, a lamp no one lit. God is present in that very contrast, the one glory showing as blindness to the hardened and as sight to those who trust Him, a single light read two ways by two hearts.
Ego v. Being lens
What keeps its light in you even when the day goes dark?
In his last teaching the Buddha told his students to be lamps unto themselves. The light you need is not borrowed from the conditions around you.
The mind that is settled carries its own calm into any place. A dark hour changes your surroundings, not the one who is aware of them.
The wound is where the light enters. What looks like your darkest room can be the place you finally see.
