Exodus 12:29 · World English Bible

Exodus 12:29 Meaning At Midnight

At midnight, Yahweh struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock.

What does Exodus 12:29 mean?

The slaughter runs through the lower mind, the land in bondage that holds the light captive, and it takes the firstborn: the first strength of the flesh, the mind and nerves and emotions, the strongest of the low thoughts. In meditation the solar energy rises from the solar plexus to the pineal gland and cuts these burdensome thoughts down where they sit.

The ruling ego on its throne loses its heir, and even the animal drives penned in the body lose their first increase.

Midnight is the lowest turn of the dark cycle, the point on the clock the old sky-readers marked as Virgo, the virgin place where the sun is born again. At that turn the ascending light empties the carnal mind of its firstborn thoughts and the ruler who lived by them is left with nothing to command.

Egypt: the lower, carnal mind, the seat of bondage that holds the inner light captive Firstborn: the first strength of the flesh, the mind and nerves and emotions, the strongest of the low thoughts Pharaoh: the ego, the ruler enthroned over the lower mind Midnight: the lowest point of the dark cycle, the Virgo turn where the inner sun is born again Cattle: the animal drives penned within the body

Live Exodus 12:29 today

  1. When you wake at three in the morning with your worst thought already talking, do not argue with it and do not feed it. Say "not now," breathe slow, and let the dark be dark without obeying it.
  2. Name your loudest habit out loud to one person you trust, the first thought that runs your day and makes the other ones possible. Saying it to a human face takes most of its power away.
  3. In the worst hour of a hard stretch, when it is clearly the low point, stop looking for the exit for sixty seconds and just be in it. Low points turn, and you can only feel the turn if you stop thrashing.

What is the one thought that rules my day, and what would the day look like without it?
