MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

These numbers are not calendar years but inner stages of bondage and awakening. Egypt is the state of limitation, the barren place where a person dwells enslaved to the senses. Four hundred is the cross, the body of belief that holds you bound while an assumption ripens, and the thirty is the span from the moment you embrace your desire to the hour Christ, the fulfilled state, is born in you.

So the whole figure measures a captivity that has its own appointed end. The bondage is not forever. Every assumption you make dwells for a time in this Egypt, seeming to change nothing, and then fulfills itself at the hour set for it. The waiting is not emptiness; it is the seed keeping its own season. What you assume and feel to be so serves its term in the dark and then comes out as fact when its time has come.

  1. When you catch yourself checking for proof that something has changed, the inbox, the message thread, the bank balance, close the screen and let the thing keep its season. Checking is not waiting, it is doubting out loud.
  2. If a friend asks how the new thing is going and nothing visible has happened yet, say it calmly instead of apologizing. Let the answer be steady rather than embarrassed.
  3. On a slow commute or a stalled project week, remind yourself that a dull stretch has an end written into it. Sit with the dullness and let it be the dark part of the growing.

What have you given up on only because it was taking longer than you expected?

The muddy water clears when it is left alone. Pressing on the waiting is what keeps it cloudy.

Zen

The pine grows at its own rate, and no amount of pulling on the seedling hurries the wood. What is forming in the dark is already on its way.

You cannot ask the fig for ripeness in an hour. First the blossom, then the fruit, then the sweetness, and each stage looks like nothing happening.
