What does Exodus 14:10 mean?

The state a person meets a threat in is built by where they aim their eyes a second before. Attention feeds whatever it lands on, and the thing it feeds swells until it sets the state, the state sets the emotion, and the emotion decides whether a person advances or freezes.

The state a person meets a threat in is built by where they aim their eyes a second before.

Attention feeds whatever it lands on, and the thing it feeds swells until it sets the state, the state sets the emotion, and the emotion decides whether a person advances or freezes. An army is a fixed quantity of horses and men; the terror is manufactured by handing that quantity the whole frame and deleting the water ahead, the cloud overhead, and every plague already survived.

Crying out to Yahweh is the first turn of the head, and it counts even when dread drives it rather than trust, because aim moves before feeling does. Keep the pursuit in frame and the old bondage starts to look like safety, until a person bargains to return to what they were carried out of.

  1. When your stomach drops at a notification, put the phone down and name three things in the room out loud before you open it. Aim first, then look.
  2. If someone comes to you spiraling, help them look at one thing that is also true and also in front of them. You are not arguing with their fear, you are moving their eyes.
  3. Stuck in traffic or a grocery line with your mind running the worst version, say the problem out loud to God in one sentence, even if the sentence comes out panicked. Turning the head counts before the feeling catches up.

Where are your eyes resting right now, and what is it feeding?

Your life takes the shape of what you keep turning over in your mind. Give the whole frame to the pursuing army and fear is simply what the math produces.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

What you dwell on, you become. Attention is not a window on the world, it is a hand that feeds whatever it lands on.

Tao Te Ching

Water has no shape of its own and nothing solid stands against it. Keep the stone in view and you forget the water was ever there.
