Exodus 15:22 Meaning Moses Led Israel Onward From the Red

Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

What does Exodus 15:22 mean?

Coming up out of the Red sea is passing through the blood and the lower emotional flood into a dry stretch of the inner journey, the wilderness where the old feeling-life has been left behind and no new spiritual refreshment has yet appeared. The wilderness of Shur is the barren, wall-like place the awakening self enters once it has crossed out of the passions but has not reached the living water of higher understanding.

The number 3 is the measure of a full passage through a lower state, the 3 days that must be endured before change comes.

Finding no water is the dryness a person meets after a real crossing, when the emotions no longer feed the soul and the deeper source has not yet been struck open. It is the ordinary thirst of the middle stage.

Red sea: the blood and the flood of lower emotion a person passes through on the way up Wilderness: the dry, barren stretch of consciousness after the passions are left and before higher understanding arrives Water: the living refreshment of spiritual understanding the thirsting self seeks and has not yet found 3 days: the number 3, the full measure of a passage endured through a lower state before it changes

Live Exodus 15:22 today

  1. On a day when nothing feels meaningful, keep your small routine anyway, the walk, the few quiet minutes, the glass of water, without demanding it make you feel better.
  2. If someone tells you they feel flat and empty, do not rush to cheer them up. Say, that happens, it is not a sign anything is broken, and stay nearby.
  3. When the work goes grey and you are just getting through the week, lower the bar on purpose. Doing the plain next thing badly beats waiting to feel inspired.

Can I keep walking through a stretch that gives me nothing back?

Zen

After a breakthrough comes the long flat stretch of chopping wood and carrying water. The dryness is not a wrong turn, it is the road.

Buddhism

Feelings that lifted you will also leave. Clinging to the high is how the dry patch turns into despair.

Sufism

The seeker passes through a season when prayer tastes like nothing. That emptiness is part of the training, not a sign of failure.
