Exodus 19:9 Meaning Yahweh Said to Moses

Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.

What does Exodus 19:9 mean?

The thick cloud is the veil of the flesh and the ordinary mind, the density through which the higher self must speak before the lower faculties can bear it. Voice comes wrapped in cloud because raw awareness would overwhelm the senses; it is stepped down into something the crowd of ordinary thoughts can hear and trust.

Moses is the drawn-out reasoning mind carried up the mountain of raised consciousness, standing between the people below and the light above. The exchange of words in both directions is the inner traffic between a person's scattered faculties and the single center that governs them, each learning to believe the other.

Cloud: the density of flesh and ordinary mind through which higher awareness is dimmed enough to be borne Moses: the reasoning faculty drawn up out of the lower nature to meet the center Mountain: the raised state of consciousness where a person contacts what is above the daily mind

Live Exodus 19:9 today

  1. Instead of demanding a clear answer today, sit for a few minutes with the thing you do not understand and let it stay unclear without arguing with it.
  2. When someone tries to tell you something true and says it clumsily, listen past the words for what they are actually reaching for, and say it back to them gently.
  3. Under pressure, say the hard thing in a form the other person can actually receive, slower and softer than the version in your head. Strength that lands is worth more than strength that flattens.

What have you been refusing to hear because it did not arrive in the form you wanted?

Tao Te Ching 14

The deepest reality cannot be looked at directly, it is dim and formless, and what we meet is only its edge. We are shown as much as we can hold.

Hinduism · Upanishads

The real is hidden behind a golden lid, veiled so that the eye can bear it. What covers it is also what lets us approach.

Sufism · the veils of light

The mystics say the divine is hidden by seventy thousand veils, not to keep us out but because unveiled light would simply burn away the one looking.
