Esoteric

A law of exact return worked out inside the one person. The man who strikes and the man who dies are 2 energies in a single body, and the striking force that kills a living current in the self is itself condemned to the same end. Whatever within suppresses and murders a true movement of the higher life sets its own execution in motion, for the same measure it deals is measured back to it.

This is the inward balance the old writers hid inside a courtroom rule. A destructive impulse that puts out a vital part of the self cannot survive its own act; it is put to death by the very equity it violated. The soul keeps its accounts, and the killer of life in the body forfeits its own place there.

The man smitten so that he die: a living current of the higher nature struck down within, a true movement of spirit killed off

Live Exodus 21:12 today

  1. The next time you feel something honest start to rise in you today, a bit of hope or an apology or a real opinion, do not kill it before it speaks. Say it out loud to yourself first if that helps it survive.
  2. When someone says something sincere to you, resist the quick joke that would flatten it. Hold the silence for a second longer and let what they said stay alive in the room.
  3. Under pressure, when you want to crush a person's idea in a meeting or a thread, aim at the idea and leave the person standing. Whatever you kill with the message you send will be living in you long after they have forgotten it.

What good thing in me did I put down today before it had a chance to speak?

The harm you do rebounds on you the way dust thrown into the wind comes back into your own face. Cruelty is the one weapon that always wounds the hand that holds it.

Tao Te Ching

Force turns on the one who uses it. What is violent cannot last, because the same hardness that lets it strike makes it brittle.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The only real injury is the one you do to your own character. Whoever kills something good in himself has already handed down his own sentence.
