Exodus 23:30 Meaning Little by Little I Will Drive Them

Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land.

What does Exodus 23:30 mean?

The rate at which a person can hold new ground is the rate at which the ground gets given. A person handed the whole land at once loses it, because holding ground runs on capacity, and capacity gets built only by carrying.

The rate at which a person can hold new ground is the rate at which the ground gets given.

A person handed the whole land at once loses it, because holding ground runs on capacity, and capacity gets built only by carrying. Each small increase taken and kept becomes evidence, the evidence becomes belief about what can be held, the belief steadies the state the next enemy is met in, and that state decides whether a person advances or bargains.

The danger in a long campaign is grading a partial year as failure. That grade drops the emotion, the emotion pulls a person off the field, and the compounding stops in the exact season it needed to keep running. Quitting at the slow part means keeping what was already held and never inheriting the rest.

Live Exodus 23:30 today

  1. Grade today by whether you kept going, not by how far you got. A slow week on the right road still counts.
  2. Tell someone about a small piece of progress rather than waiting for the finished thing. Saying it out loud makes it real evidence instead of a feeling.
  3. When results are thin and quitting starts to look sensible, give it one more ordinary day of the same work. The slow stretch is usually the part right before it compounds.

What would you still be holding, if you had not quit it during the slow part?

Tao Te Ching

The great tree grows from a seed and the tower rises one layer at a time. Force the pace and you get a thing that cannot hold itself up.

Confucius · Analects

Do not wish for speed. Wanting quick results is how a thing ends up never finished at all.

Bhagavad Gita

Even a little progress on the right path is never lost. No step rightly taken has to be taken twice.
