Exodus 26:8 Meaning The Length of Each Curtain Shall Be

The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits: the eleven curtains shall have one measure.

What does Exodus 26:8 mean?

The curtains are the coverings of the body-temple, the veils drawn over the inner sanctuary that separate what is seen from what is hidden within. That every curtain shares one measure speaks of a single harmony running through the whole structure, no part built to a different rule than the rest.

The curtains are the coverings of the body-temple, the veils drawn over the inner sanctuary that separate what is seen from what is hidden within. That every curtain shares one measure speaks of a single harmony running through the whole structure, no part built to a different rule than the rest. The 4 in the breadth is the number of the material world, the 4 quarters and elements out of which the outward frame is woven.

The covering of a person is meant to hang by one consistent order, every veil cut to the same proportion so the dwelling holds together as one. The outer garment of flesh and sense is woven to a single measure, matched throughout rather than patched from mismatched pieces.

  1. Read back the last few things you sent today and see if they sound like the same person. One voice, not a different one per app.
  2. Say the same thing about someone to their face that you would say in the group chat about them. If the two versions do not match, the first one is the real you to fix.
  3. When pressure tempts you to cut a corner you would never cut on a good day, hold the same standard you had this morning. The measure does not change because the day got hard.

Am I the same person in my messages, at work, and alone in my kitchen?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The sage follows one consistent way through everything, small matters and large alike. Harmony comes from one measure held throughout, not from clever patching.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He wrote about living by a single principle rather than being pulled piece by piece by circumstance. A life of mismatched rules cannot hold its shape.

Confucianism · Analects

The person of integrity is the same person in public and alone. Character is one cloth, cut to the same width wherever you look at it.
