Exodus 3:4 Meaning When Yahweh Saw That He Came Over

When Yahweh saw that he came over to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said, “Moses! Moses!” He said, “Here I am.”

What does Exodus 3:4 mean?

God calls out of the bush the moment attention turns aside to look, and the voice is your own awareness of being naming you from within the fire of your own life. Moses is not a man but an eternal plan of God, a purpose carried in you, and the calling of his name twice is that purpose summoning you inward from the ordinary road you were walking.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

God calls out of the bush the moment attention turns aside to look, and the voice is your own awareness of being naming you from within the fire of your own life. Moses is not a man but an eternal plan of God, a purpose carried in you, and the calling of his name twice is that purpose summoning you inward from the ordinary road you were walking. The bush that burns and is not consumed is your own body alight with the presence that lives in it.

The answer "Here am I" is the whole of it, awareness waking to itself and consenting to be found. God's deeper name spoken here is I AM, pure being before any condition is added to it. When a person stops and turns to see, his own I AMness speaks his name, and that awareness answering itself is God calling and God replying in one voice.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Curiosity is the part a person controls, and every assignment that ever finds them waits behind it.

A voice waits for the eyes. The order never reverses, interest first and commission second, which means the small deliberate act belongs to the person and the enormous one does not. A shepherd with his head down would have walked past that fire and felt nothing, since whatever is never turned toward may as well not be burning.

Forty years of hiding had shrunk a fugitive's sense of himself to the size of the work in front of him, and a shrunken identity screens out the very invitations it was built for. God speaking his name twice hands that identity back before any task is named. Refuse the detour and a man keeps his small life intact and never learns what was being said in his direction.

Live Exodus 3:4 today

  1. Sometime today, stop mid-task and turn toward the plain feeling of being alive in your body. Say yes to it, quietly, as if answering your own name.
  2. When someone says your name today, actually look up and be fully there before you reply. Give them a present person, not a distracted one.
  3. In the middle of a hard stretch, put your feet flat on the floor and feel yourself here. That steady sense of being is the thing you are answering from, not the pressure.

When something inside you says your name, do you keep walking or do you turn?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · Upanishads

The answer is not out ahead of you, it is the one asking. Awareness turns, finds itself, and says yes, this is what I am.

Zen

A teacher calls a student's name, the student answers, and the teacher says nothing more. The answering itself was the whole lesson.

Sufism

The seeker knocked for years, and the voice inside finally said the knocking and the answering were always one. There was never anyone else at the door.
