Exodus 33:14 · World English Bible
He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Presence is not a place you travel to. It goes with you, because it is the very awareness at the center of you, always here, always now.

EGO & BEING
Presence is not a place you travel to. It goes with you, because it is the very awareness at the center of you, always here, always now. Wherever you go, the moment you become still and attentive, you find it has never left.
And with presence comes rest. Not the rest of sleep or escape, but the deep stillness that appears when you stop struggling against this moment and let it be as it is. The restless mind, forever reaching for the next thing, grows quiet. In that quiet you discover the peace that was underneath your thinking all along.

BUDDHISM
Kalyāṇamitta: Admirable Friend An admirable friend walks the road beside you. Moses asked for company rather than an angel sent on ahead, and company is what he gets: the wilderness stays as long and as dry as before, and the difference is who is on it. Friendship of this kind is called the whole of the holy life, because a companion is what keeps a person walking.
Saraṇa: Refuge Refuge is what a person leans on when the ground gives way. The camp had just melted its earrings into a calf, a thing that must be carried and carries no one, while a presence that goes with you needs no cart. Going for refuge means choosing what can hold your weight over what needs you to hold it up.
Saṃsāra: Wandering On Wandering on is the going around and around without arriving. Forty years of striking camp and pitching it again in a different patch of sand is the outward shape of it, and the mind does the same daily, moving from one plan to the next looking for somewhere to settle. Rest promised to a wandering people reaches past the next campsite to the wandering itself.
Passaddhi: Tranquillity Tranquillity is the settling of a stirred-up body and mind. Rest arrives as a gift here, and it behaves like one: water in a shaken jug goes clear on its own once the shaking stops. A camp braced for abandonment since the calf can put its shoulders down, and steadiness follows without being summoned.
Yogakkhema: Rest from the Yoke Yogakkhema is security from the yokes that bind. These people know yokes from the brickfields, and walking out of Egypt lifted the wooden one while craving, opinion, and not seeing kept pulling from the inside. The rest offered is the ox unhitched for good, which is the oldest plain word in the teaching for where the road ends.
Ego v. Being lens
Where today am I searching for rest in some future hour, when it is available in this one?
Return to stillness and you return to the root. The one who rests there is not troubled by the coming and going of things.
The mind that runs everywhere settles when it is watched. In that settling comes an ease nothing outside can give.
People look for quiet places to retreat to, but there is no retreat quieter than your own mind. You can withdraw into it at any hour.
