What does Exodus 7:15 mean?

Confronting tyranny requires that you meet it deliberately, at the place and hour it thinks itself strongest. Moses is sent to the river at dawn to stand in Pharaoh's path, staff in hand.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

Confronting tyranny requires that you meet it deliberately, at the place and hour it thinks itself strongest. Moses is sent to the river at dawn to stand in Pharaoh's path, staff in hand. Courage amounts to a decision made the night before and kept when the powerful man finally arrives. Feeling has little to do with it.

The rod that became a serpent is the thing he once fled now carried openly. A person who has faced his own fear can hold it steady in front of the world. To confront a corrupt order, first take up what once terrified you, and walk toward the throne.

  1. Tonight, pick the one hard thing you will do tomorrow and the time you will do it. Write it where you cannot miss it, then do it at that hour whether or not you feel like it.
  2. Have the conversation you have been putting off at the moment you planned, not when it feels right. It will never feel right.
  3. When the day goes sideways and you want to skip the thing you decided on, do a smaller version of it rather than nothing. Keeping the decision matters more than the size.

What would change if your mornings were run by last night's decision instead of this morning's mood?

Stoicism · Epictetus

Decide at night what kind of person you will be in the morning, because the morning will not ask you politely. Character is the plan you kept.

Act from what you have resolved, not from how you feel when the moment arrives. Feeling comes and goes. The resolve is yours to hold.
