CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

Standing before the most powerful man in the world, the reluctant messenger is told to throw down his staff and let it turn into a snake. The image is precise. To confront tyranny, a person must release the ordinary thing in his hand and reveal the danger coiled inside it. Courage looks like that transformation.

The serpent is chaos made visible, and it is set loose deliberately before the throne. A man who would face down oppression cannot stay comfortable. He has to bring the threat out where the tyrant can see it. Only then does the confrontation become possible.

  1. Write the uncomfortable thing down before you say it. One page, honest, for no one but you. Then decide what part of it needs to be spoken.
  2. Name the real problem out loud to the person who can do something about it. Not the softened version that lets everyone stay comfortable.
  3. In the meeting where everyone is talking around the obvious issue, be the one who says it. Plainly, without heat, and then stay in the room for what follows.

What do you already know that you have not said because saying it would cost you comfort?

The fight cannot be avoided by refusing to pick up the bow. Standing there unarmed is not peace, only a slower kind of surrender.
