Ezekiel 1:4 · World English Bible

Ezekiel 1:4 Meaning I Looked

I looked, and behold, a stormy wind came out of the north: a great cloud, with flashing lightning, and a brightness around it, and out of the middle of it as it were glowing metal, out of the middle of the fire.

What does Ezekiel 1:4 mean?

The north is the crown of the head, the highest pole of the body, and out of it the energy rises as a spinning wind and turns back on itself, fire folding inward rather than burning outward. What looks like a storm at the top of the skull is the moving power of the spine reaching the brain and coiling there, spirit gathered into the head instead of spent in the world below.

The amber glow at the center is the color of that gathered light, the seat of vision opening once the fire stops running downward. What appears as a storm outside is the life-force rising to the top of a person and shining from within.

Whirlwind: the coiled energy of the spine spinning up the back and into the head North: the crown of the skull, the highest pole where the risen power gathers Cloud: the veiling mist around a truth that has not yet cleared into sight Fire infolding itself: the life-force turned inward and upward instead of burning outward into the senses Amber: the golden inner light at the center of the head, the color of opened vision

Live Ezekiel 1:4 today

  1. When restless energy sends you looking for a screen, sit still with it for a minute and let it stay in you instead of running out. The charge is the same, you are just not spending it.
  2. In your next sharp moment with someone, keep the heat and lose the discharge. Feel the whole force of it, breathe, and say the true thing quietly rather than the hot thing loudly.
  3. Under real pressure, instead of letting your attention spray out to ten tabs and the phone, draw it up into one thing and hold it there. Everything you were leaking goes into seeing clearly.

What would today look like if you gathered your energy instead of spending it outward?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · the kundalini tradition

The life-force is described as coiled at the base and able to rise through the spine to the crown, where it is experienced as light rather than as appetite.

Taoism · internal alchemy

The inner practice is to turn the energy that usually drains outward through the senses back inward and let it circulate, gathering rather than spending.

Buddhism

The energy that normally scatters into craving is gathered by attention into a bright, settled clarity. Nothing is added, the same force is simply turned around.
