Ezekiel 10:1 Meaning Then I Looked

Then I looked, and see, in the expanse that was over the head of the cherubim there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.

What does Ezekiel 10:1 mean?

Above the guarding energies of the body sits the seat of rule, and that seat is the highest center in the head, where consciousness governs everything below it. The blue of sapphire is the color of the pineal light, the deep still radiance that comes on when the lower fires are quieted and awareness rises to its crown.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Above the guarding energies of the body sits the seat of rule, and that seat is the highest center in the head, where consciousness governs everything below it. The blue of sapphire is the color of the pineal light, the deep still radiance that comes on when the lower fires are quieted and awareness rises to its crown.

The throne is only a likeness, a seeming, because the true ruler is not an object to be seen but the seeing itself. What appears over the head is the place of command in a person, the point from which the whole living temple is ordered.

Firmament: the vault of the skull, the inner sky where the higher mind sits above the body Cherubims: the guarding life-forces that surround and protect the seat of consciousness Sapphire stone: the blue pineal light that shines when awareness rises and the lower nature grows still Throne: the ruling center in the head from which consciousness governs the whole body

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Such a picture does not come from daytime thinking. It rises on its own from the deep layer of the mind that every person carries, the same layer that has shaped thrones and shining stones in the dreams of people who never met. When the mind reaches toward its own center, it tends to show that center as something raised up, radiant, and ordered above the confusion below.

The throne of blue stone is one of these images. It is the mind picturing the steady center that holds a person together, given as an image because that center is felt long before it can be put into words.

SUFISM

Sufism

The man in exile keeps saying "like" and "as it were," and that honesty is itself the cure. A heart that claims to have seen God plainly is only showing off its own certainty; the humble heart admits it caught a resemblance, a blue stone standing in for a glory too bright to name.

Still, the throne is really there. The clear stone does not invent the light it holds; it lets the light be seen without pretending to be its source. So a person meets God exactly here, in the gap between the seeing and the seen.

Live Ezekiel 10:1 today

  1. Sit for three minutes and let your thoughts come without chasing any of them. You are not the traffic, you are the one sitting there watching it go by.
  2. The next time a conversation starts to heat up, stay quiet for one extra beat before you reply. That small gap is you choosing instead of reacting.
  3. When the day gets loud, stop for one breath and feel the top of your head, the stillness just above all the noise. From there the day is still big but you are not inside it.

Who is the one watching all this, and when did I last sit with him?

Tibetan Buddhism · Dzogchen

You are not the thoughts passing through. You are the open sky they pass through, and the sky is not disturbed.

Upanishads

The seer cannot be seen, because it is the one doing the seeing. Look for it as an object and you will come back empty-handed.

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to stillness and you return to the root. When the churning settles, the clear thing underneath was there the whole time.
