Ezekiel 16:17 Meaning You Also Took Your Beautiful Jewels

You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and played the prostitute with them.

What does Ezekiel 16:17 mean?

The gold is the solar current and the silver the lunar, the 2 precious energies given freely to every body. Turned outward, they are melted down into images of men: the mind spends its inner wealth building idols of other people, opinions, and desires, then binds itself to what it has made.

The gold is the solar current and the silver the lunar, the 2 precious energies given freely to every body. Turned outward, they are melted down into images of men: the mind spends its inner wealth building idols of other people, opinions, and desires, then binds itself to what it has made. Whoredom here is attention poured into these outer forms until the self belongs to them.

The tragedy is that the very treasure meant to feed the inner life gets cast into shapes that own the one who shaped them.

Gold: the solar energy of the body, the bright vital current given to spend on the inner life. Silver: the lunar energy of the body, the cooler emotional force paired with the gold. Images of men: the idols the mind casts from its own energy, the outer people and desires it then serves.

  1. Look at the last hour of your screen time and name what you gave your energy to. Not to feel bad about it, just to see plainly where your best attention went and whether you chose it.
  2. Pick one person you keep replaying in your head, the one whose approval or opinion you mentally rehearse for. Today, either talk to the actual person or let the version in your head go, because that version is costing you more than they ever asked.
  3. Next time a notification pulls at you mid task, let it sit for ten minutes before you look. That small gap is you keeping your own gold instead of spending it the second someone reaches for it.

Which of the things I serve did I make out of my own energy without realizing it?

The same truth in other traditions

Bhagavad Gita 2

When the senses run after their objects, attention is carried off like a boat on water by the wind. The energy was yours to spend, and you handed it to the thing you were staring at.

Buddhism · the second noble truth

Craving builds the very thing that then holds us. We shape an object out of our own wanting, and the moment it exists we are tied to it.

Stoicism · Epictetus

If you fix your heart on what is not yours, you have given a stranger the keys to your peace. Your own judgment is the only coin you truly own, so stop melting it down for things outside your control.
