Ezekiel 2:2 Meaning The Spirit Entered Into Me When He

The Spirit entered into me when he spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard him who spoke to me.

What does Ezekiel 2:2 mean?

A word is spoken, and in the same instant something enters and lifts a man to his feet. This is what happens when you truly receive a moment instead of thinking about it.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

A word is spoken, and in the same instant something enters and lifts a man to his feet. This is what happens when you truly receive a moment instead of thinking about it. Presence comes in, and you find yourself standing upright, awake, no longer collapsed into your own commentary.

And only then does he hear. Before the spirit set him on his feet, the voice was there but he could not receive it. The same is true for you now. When awareness fills you and steadies you in this moment, you begin to hear what was always speaking, because you are finally still enough to be present to it.

Live Ezekiel 2:2 today

  1. For one minute today, sit without your phone and let the room reach you, sounds, light, the feel of the chair. Something straightens in you when you stop narrating and start receiving.
  2. In your next conversation, listen without preparing your reply. You will hear things in their voice you have been missing for years.
  3. In a meeting or a traffic jam, feel your feet on the floor or the ground under the car. Being physically here, right now, is enough to wake you out of the loop in your head.

How much of today have I actually heard, and how much have I only thought about?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen

When you eat, just eat. When you walk, just walk. The moment you fully meet what is in front of you, the fog of commentary lifts and you are finally here.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Give yourself completely to the thing at hand, as though it were the last thing you would ever do. Half attention is a kind of sleep.

Buddhism

Mindfulness is simply being awake to this breath, this step, this sound. Hearing truly begins when the inner chatter settles.
