Ezekiel 20:12 Meaning Moreover Also I Gave Them My Sabbaths

Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.

What does Ezekiel 20:12 mean?

There is a rest given to you that has nothing to do with idleness. It is the sabbath within, the stillness beneath all your doing, where the ceaseless activity of the mind comes to a stop.

Ego v. Being

There is a rest given to you that has nothing to do with idleness. It is the sabbath within, the stillness beneath all your doing, where the ceaseless activity of the mind comes to a stop. This stillness was given as a sign, a doorway to the eternal.

Why a sign? Because in that quiet you no longer merely believe in something sacred. You know it directly, because you are resting in it. What makes you whole is not anything you achieve through effort. It is the presence you meet when you finally stop, and meeting it is the whole purpose of the stillness.

Live Ezekiel 20:12 today

  1. Take five minutes today with no screen, no music, no plan. Sit still and let the quiet be the whole activity.
  2. Have one meal with someone and leave both phones in another room. You will feel the difference in the first two minutes.
  3. On a day packed with meetings, take the ninety seconds between two of them and do absolutely nothing. Breathe, let the rush settle, and go in.

When was the last time I let myself be still without needing it to produce anything?

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to stillness and you return to the root. In that quiet, things are seen as they are.

Hinduism · Upanishads

When the mind's movement settles, what remains is the awareness that was always there watching. That is not something you make. It is what you are.

Zen

Sitting quietly, doing nothing, is not idleness. It is the one practice where there is nothing left to achieve.
