Ezekiel 28:2 Meaning Son of Man

Son of man, tell the prince of Tyre, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the middle of the seas;’ yet you are man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God—

What does Ezekiel 28:2 mean?

When the ego swells and declares itself a god, it has mistaken a mental image for reality. The mind builds a self out of position, wealth, and importance, then worships that image and calls it I.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

When the ego swells and declares itself a god, it has mistaken a mental image for reality. The mind builds a self out of position, wealth, and importance, then worships that image and calls it I. Yet you are a man, not the inflated idol thought has made, and that structure is destined to collapse because it was never real.

There is something sacred in you, but it is not the proud self seated in its imagined place. It is the quiet awareness beneath all thought. Confusing the ego for that presence is the oldest human mistake, and it ends in suffering, because a false self can never carry the weight it claims to hold.

SUFISM

Sufism

Here is the oldest sickness undisguised: a man so lifted up by success that he mistakes himself for the source and takes a seat that is not his. Pride tells the cup it is the water. The cure is to remember that every gift is borrowed, to admit the throne belongs to Another, and to step down.

Yet the ache behind the boast is real. The heart was made to reflect its Maker, so it reaches for a glory it senses is near. A window is not the sun, but the light does live in it. Humbled, the same heart turns to clear glass, and God is truly present in it without its ever pretending to be God.

Live Ezekiel 28:2 today

  1. Say your job title and your wins out loud to yourself, then ask what is left of you if those were gone tomorrow. Stay with whatever answers.
  2. Today, let someone correct you in front of others and simply say they are right. Watch how much your body wants to defend a picture of yourself.
  3. When you feel the urge to pull rank in a thread or a meeting, make your point once without the weight of your position behind it, and let it stand or fall on its own.

How much of what you call yourself is actually just a reputation you are maintaining?

Stand on tiptoe and you cannot stay standing. Whoever shows off, defines himself, and claims credit is building height that is already falling.

Hinduism · the Upanishads

The self you think you are is a passing costume of name and form. What is actually sacred in you is the silent awareness behind it, and mistaking the costume for that is the root confusion.

The seeker does not inflate the self to reach God, the seeker lets the little self dissolve. What remains was never your achievement to begin with.
