Ezekiel 28:26 Meaning They Will Dwell in It Securely

They will dwell in it securely. Yes, they will build houses, plant vineyards, and will dwell securely, when I have executed judgments on all those who scorn them all around. Then they will know that I am Yahweh their God.” ’

What does Ezekiel 28:26 mean?

To dwell safely is not to build higher walls against the world. The threat you feel comes from the surrounding pressure of the fearful mind, the voices round about that despise your peace and keep you defending a self that was never solid.

Ego v. Being

To dwell safely is not to build higher walls against the world. The threat you feel comes from the surrounding pressure of the fearful mind, the voices round about that despise your peace and keep you defending a self that was never solid.

When presence dissolves that inner reactivity, the enemy you felt simply loses its power over you. Then you can build your house and plant your vineyard in real confidence, not because every danger is gone, but because you are no longer identified with the fear, and you come to know the still awareness that was always your ground.

Live Ezekiel 28:26 today

  1. When you catch yourself rehearsing an argument with someone in your head, stop the rehearsal and feel your feet on the floor instead. The fight is not happening, your body is just acting like it is.
  2. With a person who regularly gets under your skin, let one of their comments pass today without the inner commentary afterward. Just the comment, nothing added.
  3. In a tense meeting or a tense text thread, take one breath before you respond and let the urgency drop a notch. You can answer the same thing, just not from the defending place.

How much of the danger you feel today is in the room, and how much is in the running commentary?

The same truth in other traditions

Stoicism · Epictetus

It is not events that disturb us but our judgments about them. Change what you are doing with the thought and the threat loses most of its grip.

Buddhism · the second arrow

The first arrow is what actually happens. The second is the one you fire into yourself with worry and resistance, and only the second is optional.

Tao Te Ching 15

Who can stay still while the mud settles until the water clears by itself? Safety comes from that settling, not from stirring harder.
