Ezekiel 3:12 Meaning Then the Spirit Lifted Me Up

Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing, saying, “Blessed be Yahweh’s glory from his place.”

What does Ezekiel 3:12 mean?

The spirit lifts him, and behind him he hears a great rushing, the sound of life itself in motion. He does not manufacture this.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The spirit lifts him, and behind him he hears a great rushing, the sound of life itself in motion. He does not manufacture this. He is carried, taken up out of the small self that plans and resists into the current that was moving all along.

And what the sound proclaims is glory arising from its own place, needing nothing added. The deep aliveness at the source of all things is already whole, already blessed, in the ground from which everything comes. When you stop striving and let yourself be lifted by what is already here, you hear it too, because you have entered the stillness where that living presence has always been speaking.

Live Ezekiel 3:12 today

  1. On your commute or your walk today, stop pushing the day forward in your head for a few blocks. Let yourself be moved along by it and feel how the effort was never needed.
  2. Spend time with someone without trying to improve the moment, fix them, or get somewhere. Just being with them is already full.
  3. When you hit a wall at work and everything in you wants to force it, set your hands in your lap for thirty seconds. Something in you is already fine, underneath all the urgency.

What am I straining for that is already here?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The Tao is the current beneath everything, and the one who stops fighting it is carried. Striving makes a small life, yielding joins a vast one.

Sufism · Rumi, Masnavi

The reed flute makes no music of its own. It cries only because breath is moving through the emptiness in it.

Zen · Shunryu Suzuki

Your nature is already complete. Practice is not adding anything to it, only sitting still enough to feel what was never missing.
