The sentence a person passes on their own future does more damage than the loss that suggested it. References gathered from real ruin harden into a feeling of certainty, the certainty sets the state, and the state decides what will never be attempted, so nothing arrives to test it.

SELF-HELP
The sentence a person passes on their own future does more damage than the loss that suggested it.
References gathered from real ruin harden into a feeling of certainty, the certainty sets the state, and the state decides what will never be attempted, so nothing arrives to test it. The losses were genuine; the conclusion drawn from them was accepted rather than examined, which is how a fence passes for the horizon.
The deadness that had to be answered first was the one they had agreed to, not the one in their bones. God's breath did not wait on their agreement, and only a reference of that size undoes a certainty of that size. Meanwhile a person pays in decisions made from a future already ruled out, years of not returning, not rebuilding, not asking.

What have I ruled out of my future without ever once checking?
What harms us is not the thing that happened but the verdict we fasten onto it. The ruin was real; the conclusion that it is final was our own addition.
What we are is made of what we have thought. The mind goes first and the life follows it, step for step.
The wound is the place where the light enters. What you are calling the end of the story is often the opening of it.
