Ezekiel 37:13 Meaning You Will Know That I Am Yahweh

You will know that I am Yahweh, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, my people.

What does Ezekiel 37:13 mean?

Most people live buried in their own thinking, sealed inside a story of past and future, going through the motions of a life they never quite inhabit. That is the grave spoken of here.

Ego v. Being

Most people live buried in their own thinking, sealed inside a story of past and future, going through the motions of a life they never quite inhabit. That is the grave spoken of here. It is not the body's death but the sleep of a mind that has forgotten how to be present.

When the grave opens, awareness returns to what is actually here. You feel the aliveness in your hands, the space of this moment. And in that awakening you know the presence that was doing the opening. You know it directly, because you have become it. That is what it means to be brought up out of the grave.

Live Ezekiel 37:13 today

  1. Sometime today, stop scrolling mid feed and feel your hands, the weight of your body, the sounds in the room. That is what it feels like to climb out.
  2. When you catch yourself replaying an old argument while someone is right there with you, come back to their face and their voice. The past can wait, this person cannot.
  3. When worry about next week is running your afternoon, name one thing in front of you that is actually real, the cup, the light, your own breathing. Then do the next small thing.

How much of today did I spend in my thinking instead of my life?

The same truth in other traditions

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The awakened one is awake while the world sleeps. The sleep meant here is not closed eyes but a mind lost in its own thinking.

Zhuangzi

A man dreamed he was a butterfly, then woke unsure which was the dream. Waking up begins the moment you suspect you have been living inside a story.

Sufism · Rumi

You have been asleep for years inside a borrowed life. The one who wakes you is not far off, it is the awareness already stirring in you.
