Ezekiel 37:9 · World English Bible

Ezekiel 37:9 Meaning Then He Said to Me

Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” ’ ”

What does Ezekiel 37:9 mean?

Breath and spirit are one movement. The same word names both, for the breath that fills your body is the visible face of the formless life that animates all things.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Breath and spirit are one movement. The same word names both, for the breath that fills your body is the visible face of the formless life that animates all things. Feel your own breathing, and you touch that life directly.

Those who lie as if slain are not corpses. They are the many numbed by thought, cut off from the aliveness within them. What revives them is not a new belief but breath itself, the return of presence, the formless life flowing back into a body that had forgotten it was alive. Turn your attention to the breath moving in you now, and that same life begins to stir.

Live Ezekiel 37:9 today

  1. Set one quiet alarm on your phone for the middle of the day. When it goes off, take three slow breaths and let yourself feel the air moving. That is the whole thing.
  2. When a group chat or a tense text pulls you in, breathe out once before you type. The reply that comes after that breath is usually the one you would stand behind tomorrow.
  3. In a hard conversation, when your chest tightens and you want to win, feel your breathing instead of reaching for the next line. Staying with the breath keeps you in the room as a person rather than an argument.

What changes in me when I remember I am breathing?

The same truth in other traditions

Buddhism · Anapanasati

The Buddha taught watching the breath as the plainest door to waking up. Breathing in, know you are breathing in. Nothing else is needed.

Tao Te Ching

The Tao moves like a bellows, empty yet inexhaustible, filling everything that lives. Breathing softly, you move with it instead of against it.

Hatha Yoga · Prana

The word for breath and the word for life force are the same. To steady the breath is to steady the mind, because they were never two things.
