Ezekiel 4:6 · World English Bible

Ezekiel 4:6 Meaning Again

Again, when you have accomplished these, you shall lie on your right side, and shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah. I have appointed forty days, each day for a year, to you.

What does Ezekiel 4:6 mean?

The right side is the right hemisphere of the brain, and Judah is that same right side of the head, so lying upon it is awareness deliberately settling onto one half of its own consciousness to carry what has gone wrong there. The number 40 symbolizes a full season of testing and purification worked out within a person.

Esoteric

The right side is the right hemisphere of the brain, and Judah is that same right side of the head, so lying upon it is awareness deliberately settling onto one half of its own consciousness to carry what has gone wrong there. The number 40 symbolizes a full season of testing and purification worked out within a person. Each day standing for a year stretches that ordeal across the whole interior, one measured unit answering to a long span of inner correction. The bizarre posture is a living diagram: the body positioned so that the burden of the right hemisphere is felt and borne until the account is settled.

Right side: the right hemisphere of the brain, borne by lying upon it. House of Judah: the right hemisphere of the head, the half whose burden is carried. 40 days: a full measured season of testing and purification within a person.

Live Ezekiel 4:6 today

  1. If you are in a slow, grinding stretch right now, stop asking why it is not over. Ask what it is making in you, and give it this week without a verdict.
  2. With someone who is in their own long season, grief, illness, a hard job, stop offering fixes. Just keep showing up on the ordinary days when nobody else does.
  3. When you are tempted to end something early because the discomfort is loud, give it one more honest day before you decide. The decision made inside the discomfort is rarely the clear one.

What am I trying to rush out of, that is probably not finished with me yet?

Buddhism

Patient endurance is itself one of the perfections, not a delay before the real work. The season is finished by being sat through, and leaving early only starts the count again.

Judaism · Shmita

Every seventh year the land is left unworked, by appointment and not by accident. The rest is counted, has a start and a finish, and the field is handed back stronger.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Nothing great is produced all at once, any more than a fig ripens in an hour. Say you want the fruit, then give it the time the fruit takes.
