Ezekiel 45:17 Meaning It Shall Be the Prince’s Part

It shall be the prince’s part to give the burnt offerings, the meal offerings, and the drink offerings, in the feasts, and on the new moons, and on the Sabbaths, in all the appointed feasts of the house of Israel. He shall prepare the sin offering, the meal offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make atonement for the house of Israel.

The cost of the whole falls on the one at the top. That is what it means to be the prince, properly understood. Not that he is served, but that the reconciliation of everyone below him is charged to his account, feast after feast, sabbath after sabbath, without end. The people rest, and he pays. A hierarchy that has forgotten this has already begun to rot, because it has inverted the burden and made the summit a place of extraction rather than sacrifice.

Authority is legitimate exactly to the degree that it carries what the group cannot carry for itself. The prince prepares the sin offering so that the house may be at peace with what it is. Whoever wants the high place should first ask whether he is willing to be the one who pays for everyone's failures.

Live Ezekiel 45:17 today

  1. Find one cost in your house or your team that you have been quietly letting someone else absorb: the late hours, the money, the awkward phone call. Take it onto your own plate today.
  2. When something under you goes wrong, say "that one is on me" first, without the explanation attached. Then fix it, and do not make the other person carry the story of it.
  3. In the next tense moment, a deadline slipping, a family argument at dinner, be the one who absorbs the heat instead of passing it down. Take the hit and keep the room steady.

What are the people around you paying for that should be coming out of your account?

The sea is lord of a hundred rivers because it lies below them all. The leader who puts himself last ends up carrying everyone, and that is why they follow.

The bee gets nothing the hive does not get. What is no good for the whole group is no good for you either, whatever your position in it.
