Galatians 4:24 Meaning These Things Contain an Allegory

These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.

What does Galatians 4:24 mean?

Every figure in Scripture is a state of consciousness, not a person who once walked the earth, and here that is said plainly. The two covenants are two ways of being born.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Every figure in Scripture is a state of consciousness, not a person who once walked the earth, and here that is said plainly. The two covenants are two ways of being born. Hagar is physical birth, the life a person is handed by blood and circumstance, and it can only produce a mortal, enslaved child. To live from that covenant is to feel bound by what the senses report and by the conditions you were given.

Sinai gives the law that binds, the demand met from the outside, and it fathers bondage. The other covenant is the birth from above, out of your own skull, into the freedom of Sarah. A man assumes the state he wants and feels it as already his, and Christ is formed in him the way a child forms in a womb. One birth leaves you a slave to fact. The other makes you the author of it.

The writer states outright what the whole method rests on: these things are not history but coded speech, a picture laid over the human frame. The 2 covenants are 2 states a person lives under. Sinai, the mount of law and hard reasoning, is the calculating mind that measures every act and binds the one who lives by it, forever weighing, never at rest. Agar the servant is that bound condition, the self kept in a lower place, obedient to fear.

The old law given on the stony mountain of the intellect breeds bondage because it can only command from outside; it never frees the one inside. The higher covenant belongs to the free part, the awareness above the reasoning that answers to no rule. The whole of Scripture works this way, one thing standing for another, the outer tale hiding what unfolds within a living person.

Live Galatians 4:24 today

  1. Take one rule you have been obeying out of habit, a routine, an unspoken family expectation, and ask quietly whether it is yours or just inherited.
  2. When someone retells an old story about you today, the one about how you always do a certain thing, hear it as a description of a past state, not a verdict. You can let it pass without arguing.
  3. When a demand arrives from outside, an email, a deadline, meet it without letting it decide who you are. Do the task from the state you chose this morning.
