Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing.
Circumcision is the outward cutting of the flesh mistaken for the inward work, the ritual performed on the body while the heart is left untouched. To lean on this external mark is to trust the letter carved in skin instead of the living current that must rise within.

ESOTERIC
Circumcision is the outward cutting of the flesh mistaken for the inward work, the ritual performed on the body while the heart is left untouched. To lean on this external mark is to trust the letter carved in skin instead of the living current that must rise within. The Christ, the anointing that climbs the spine to the crown, brings nothing to one who stakes salvation on a physical operation, because that person has fixed attention on the outer body and turned away from the inner ascent.
When a rite of the flesh is made the whole of religion, the inward light gains no ground. The cut in the body cannot substitute for the awakening that must happen in consciousness.
Circumcision: the outward cutting of the flesh taken as the whole work, the external rite trusted in place of the inward rising of the anointing

What am I keeping up on the outside that I have stopped doing on the inside?
You cannot polish a tile into a mirror. Sitting in the correct posture while the mind stays unchanged only produces a well-kept outside.
There is a fasting of the heart that no diet or observance can reach. Empty the attention itself, and the outward discipline counts for nothing beside it.
The shepherd's clumsy prayer was worth more than the correct one, because God looks at the burning inside and not at the form of the words.
