Ego v. Being

Meekness is not weakness. It is the natural humility of someone no longer driven by the ego, no longer needing to dominate or defend. Temperance is that same freedom from another angle: you are no longer pulled about by craving, because you are present enough to feel an impulse without obeying it.

Laws exist to restrain the ego, to hold back the harm that unconscious, reactive people cause. But when you act from awareness rather than compulsion, there is nothing in you for a law to restrain. Against such a state no law is needed, because you were never the problem law was made to solve.

Live Galatians 5:23 today

  1. Feel an irritation rise today and do nothing with it. Let it move through you like weather while you keep doing the dishes.
  2. When someone cuts you off in traffic or in conversation, let it go without the comment you had ready. Not because you are being good, just because you do not need it.
  3. In a heated exchange, speak slower and quieter than you want to. Strength that does not have to raise its voice tends to end the fight.

What would change in my day if I did not have to be right or in charge even once?
