CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
When a part of the mind takes up residence inside the ego's stronghold, it becomes captive to the very fear it chose to live among. The thought that settled in the place of guilt is carried off, for whatever the mind makes its home lays a claim upon it. To dwell in the city of separation is already to be half taken.
The ego does not seize the mind all at once. It waits until a wandering thought moves in, then binds it along with all it valued. What looks like an outside army is only the outcome of a choice already made within, and the captivity began with the decision to dwell where fear rules.
Lot: the wandering part of the mind that chose to live within the ego's world and so fell under its power. Sodom: the mind's stronghold of guilt and separation, the place that captures whatever consents to live in it. Goods: the treasures the mind stores up inside fear, lost the moment fear is made its dwelling.
Christian Psychology lens
What have I been living inside long enough that it has started to own me?
Mind precedes all things, and what you dwell on you become. Live inside a thought long enough and it starts making your decisions.
Whoever wants what is not in their control has handed over their freedom. You are owned by whatever you cannot walk away from.
Where the mind rests, there the self is carried. Attachment binds quietly, long before it feels like capture.
