Genesis 21:15 · World English Bible
The water in the container was spent, and she put the child under one of the shrubs.
The little that fear provides always runs out, and when it does, the mind in despair gives up even on the tender thing it was carrying. To lay the child down under a bush and turn away is the moment a self believes its last hope has died, that nothing it holds can be saved.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The little that fear provides always runs out, and when it does, the mind in despair gives up even on the tender thing it was carrying. To lay the child down under a bush and turn away is the moment a self believes its last hope has died, that nothing it holds can be saved. This is not the end love arranges; it is the bottom the ego reaches when its resources fail.
What seems like the death of hope is only its abandonment. The mind has not lost the child; it has stopped looking, convinced that the emptiness of its supply proves the case is finished.
Water: the ego's supply of comfort, which always drains away and leaves the mind stranded. Child: the last hope the despairing mind carries, the tender life it lays down because it believes it cannot be kept alive. Shrub: the meager cover under which the mind hides what it has given up on, the shade of resignation.
Christian Psychology lens
What have I stopped looking for because I decided it could not be there?
Despair comes not when help is gone but when looking stops. The eyes close one step before the water.
The night is darkest right before you give up, and that is precisely the hour not to. What runs out was never the real supply.
What we call the end is usually just the end of our own resources. Stay on your feet a little past that point and the ground is still there.
