Hagar is the left brain, the physical and material side, the bondwoman consciousness tied to Mount Sinai and the lower nature, set against the right hemisphere where the Christ awareness sits. The lad is the wounded physical child cast out into the dry places, the part of a person that carries the promise while it suffers in the drought. The wilderness around them both is the mind gone dry, the outer nature with no water left.
The angel calling out of heaven is an angle of higher awareness reaching down from the crown, from Uranus, the topmost center, into the parched lower side. That the voice is heard where he is means the light finds the wounded child exactly in its low place and answers it. The comfort is real and physical: the higher center bends toward the lower and the dry side is not abandoned.
