Genesis 22:14 Meaning Abraham Called the Name of That Place

Abraham called the name of that place “Yahweh Will Provide”. As it is said to this day, “On Yahweh’s mountain, it will be provided.”

What does Genesis 22:14 mean?

He had climbed with nothing certain but the next step, and at the highest point, where he had surrendered even what he loved most, what he needed was already waiting. So he gave the place a name that meant the provision is seen here.

Ego v. Being

He had climbed with nothing certain but the next step, and at the highest point, where he had surrendered even what he loved most, what he needed was already waiting. So he gave the place a name that meant the provision is seen here.

The anxious mind never trusts this. What sustains a life is not stored up ahead of time. It arrives at the summit, in the moment of letting go, never a step before. On the mount it shall be seen, which means the seeing comes to those who have climbed all the way up and stopped clutching.

Live Genesis 22:14 today

  1. When you catch yourself rehearsing how next month will go wrong, come back to the one step you can actually take today. The rest is not yours yet.
  2. Tell one person honestly that you do not know how something will turn out. Saying it out loud loosens the grip more than another hour of planning.
  3. In a tight moment at work, open your hands, put them flat on the desk, and do the next small thing. Forcing and climbing look similar from outside, and they feel nothing alike.

What might be waiting for you at the top of a climb you have not finished?

Yield, and you are not broken. What you need tends to arrive when you stop forcing it into existence.

Zen

A teacher fills the cup until it spills and says, empty it first. Only open hands can receive what is offered.
