Genesis 22:8 · World English Bible

Genesis 22:8 Meaning Abraham Said

Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they both went together.

What does Genesis 22:8 mean?

The answer that steadies the fearful mind is the recognition that it need not supply the victim, for love itself will show what is really being asked. A mind that trusts this stops rehearsing whose death will satisfy the debt, because it begins to sense there is no debt and no death to arrange.

The answer that steadies the fearful mind is the recognition that it need not supply the victim, for love itself will show what is really being asked. A mind that trusts this stops rehearsing whose death will satisfy the debt, because it begins to sense there is no debt and no death to arrange. What it dreaded having to do is quietly taken out of its hands.

So the two go on together, and their unbroken companionship is the proof already given. The one who walks beside you in trust is never the sacrifice, and the lamb that love provides turns out to be the end of sacrifice itself.

Son: the innocent self, reassured that it will not be made to die. Lamb: the offering love supplies in place of attack, the sign that innocence, not a victim, was the answer all along.

Certainty runs ahead of proof, and the walking it produces is what puts a person where the proof is.

What a man holds as true about provision fixes his state, the state holds his emotion steady, and steady emotion is what keeps his legs moving up a mountain with empty hands. Declaring the lamb was a report of what he was already operating from, because a person acts at the level of their certainty, never at the level of their information.

The thicket later delivered exactly what had been declared, and from then on the provision becomes the reason given for trust that came first. The loop confirms itself. Reverse the order, demand the lamb before you will climb, and you never reach the ground where God supplies it.

Live Genesis 22:8 today

  1. Pick the one problem you have been solving in your head at 2am and set it down for today. Say, I do not have to arrange this, and go do something ordinary with your hands.
  2. Go through something hard alongside someone instead of in front of them. Sit with them in the waiting room, stay on the call, keep walking next to them and stop trying to fix it.
  3. When a deadline tightens and your instinct is to force everything, do the next honest step and let the rest be provided. Then stop checking the thread every five minutes.

What have I been scrambling to supply that was never mine to arrange?
