The awakening spiritual self must withdraw from the reach of the enraged flesh, and the counsel here is retreat into a season of hidden growth. Haran is a place of parching and delay, the wilderness stretch where the higher mind must live rough and labor long before it can return in strength.

ESOTERIC
The awakening spiritual self must withdraw from the reach of the enraged flesh, and the counsel here is retreat into a season of hidden growth. Haran is a place of parching and delay, the wilderness stretch where the higher mind must live rough and labor long before it can return in strength. Fleeing to Laban is the soul entering a period of testing and service under a shrewd master, the hard schooling a person passes through while the spirit matures out of the reach of its own lower nature. Rebekah's voice is the deeper intuition urging the finer self to preserve itself rather than face the flesh head-on before it is ready.
The higher self does not conquer the lower by staying and fighting while it is young. It goes into a long inner exile, grows there, and comes back seasoned.
Haran: the place of parching and delay, the wilderness of testing where the higher mind labors and matures Laban: the shrewd master of the exile, the hard schooling a person serves under while the spirit grows strong
