Genesis 30:15 Meaning Leah Said to Her

Leah said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes, also?” Rachel said, “Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.”

What does Genesis 30:15 mean?

This is the ego trading, treating persons as property and love as a night to be bought. Each mind believes it holds and can be robbed, so it haggles over a husband and a handful of roots as though peace could be purchased with the right exchange.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

This is the ego trading, treating persons as property and love as a night to be bought. Each mind believes it holds and can be robbed, so it haggles over a husband and a handful of roots as though peace could be purchased with the right exchange. The whole quarrel rests on the conviction that what one has, another has stolen.

Nothing real can be owned, so nothing real can be taken, and the bargain settles nothing. A mind released from possession would see that neither sister has lost a thing, and that there was never anything here to buy or sell.

Husband: the good the mind believes it possesses and fears is being stolen, a person reduced to a thing that can be held or lost. Mandrakes: the small prize the mind bargains for, a token of the belief that love and life can be traded like goods.

Live Genesis 30:15 today

  1. Lend or give away one thing today that you have been quietly guarding, a tool, a book, a good recipe, with no expectation back.
  2. Let someone else have the thing you were both angling for, the last slice, the good seat, the credit for the idea. Do it without announcing that you did.
  3. When a negotiation starts creeping into the personal, at work or with family, say plainly what you actually want instead of trading leverage. Trades over people never settle anything.

What are you holding so tightly that the holding has become heavier than the thing?

Tao Te Ching 44

The more you hoard, the more you have to lose, and the grip itself becomes the suffering. Knowing when to stop keeps you from being owned by what you own.

Buddhism

Clinging is the ache, and it attaches to people as easily as to objects. Holding a person as yours is the beginning of the fear of losing them.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Never say you have lost something, say it was returned. Nothing was ever yours in the way possession implies.
