Genesis 30:35 · World English Bible

Genesis 30:35 Meaning That Day

That day, he removed the male goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

What does Genesis 30:35 mean?

This is the divine higher mind sorting its own herd, drawing off the marked and mixed from the plain. Laban is that spirit, the pure consciousness of the right side, and everything with white in it is spirit itself set apart, the goats the carnal thoughts of the left and the sheep the divine thoughts of the right.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

This is the divine higher mind sorting its own herd, drawing off the marked and mixed from the plain. Laban is that spirit, the pure consciousness of the right side, and everything with white in it is spirit itself set apart, the goats the carnal thoughts of the left and the sheep the divine thoughts of the right. The whole occult work of the mind is here, a separation of pure from impure done by the higher intelligence and handed to what it has fathered.

What happens in a person is this quiet dividing of thought from thought, the spiritual mind lifting out what is speckled and clouded so the pure and the mixed no longer graze as one.

Laban: the divine, higher mind, the pure consciousness of the right side doing the sorting White: the spirit, purity itself, the mark of what belongs to the higher mind Sheep: the divine thoughts of the right Goats: the carnal thoughts of the left

Live Genesis 30:35 today

  1. Sometime today, read back your own last ten messages or notes and quietly sort them: this one is clear, this one is me stirred up. No fixing, just sorting.
  2. In your next real conversation, when something lands in you, take a breath and separate what the person actually said from the story you are already building on top of it.
  3. Under pressure at work, say the plain fact of the situation to yourself in one sentence, then say your fear in a second sentence. Keeping them apart is most of the relief.

Which thought have you been grazing with the rest, though you know it does not belong?

The same truth in other traditions

Buddhism · Satipatthana Sutta

The practice includes watching the mind itself, simply noting when a state is clouded and when it is clear, without being dragged along by either.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He kept separating what was his own judgment from what was simply happening, so the two would stop blurring into one tangled complaint.

Zen

The work is not to kill the wandering mind but to tell the difference between a thought you are having and a thought that is having you.
