Genesis 31:21 · World English Bible
So he fled with all that he had. He rose up, passed over the River, and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead.
The mind steals away into meditation, carrying everything it has toward the high place within. Jacob is the spirit making this quiet break from outer entanglement, and passing over the river is the crossing from ordinary waking thought into the deeper inner current.

ESOTERIC
The mind steals away into meditation, carrying everything it has toward the high place within. Jacob is the spirit making this quiet break from outer entanglement, and passing over the river is the crossing from ordinary waking thought into the deeper inner current. Setting the face, the intelligence, toward mount Gilead is the awareness aiming itself at the hill of testimony, the high place in the mind where the inner witness speaks and higher truth is confirmed.
The flight is not escape from a man but the turn from the outer life toward the summit within. The intelligence fixes on that ground, and the whole movement becomes a climb toward the place where a person meets the testimony rising from inside.
Jacob: the spirit in a person, breaking quietly from outer entanglement to turn inward The river: the crossing from ordinary waking thought into the deeper inner current Face: the intelligence, the aimed awareness that fixes itself on the high inner ground Mount Gilead: the hill of testimony, the high place in the mind where the inner witness speaks and higher truth is confirmed
Esoteric lens
What would you hear from inside yourself, if you climbed somewhere quiet enough to listen?
The one who would know the deeper self goes apart to a quiet place, alone, and gathers the mind to a single point.
You do not have to go out into the world to find it. Stay still, turn inward, and the high ground is already there.
Crossing from the ordinary busy mind into the deeper current is not a journey of distance. It is one turn of attention, made on purpose.
