Genesis 31:49 · World English Bible
and Mizpah, for he said, “Yahweh watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another.
Two parts of the mind that could not be reconciled agree instead to place a watching between them, and even this guarded peace is held within a larger care. What sounds like the wariness of parties who no longer trust each other is quietly the admission that a higher awareness keeps them both when they can no longer keep each other.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Two parts of the mind that could not be reconciled agree instead to place a watching between them, and even this guarded peace is held within a larger care. What sounds like the wariness of parties who no longer trust each other is quietly the admission that a higher awareness keeps them both when they can no longer keep each other. Distance is granted, and the distance itself is watched over.
So a truce made in fear becomes a place where love stands guard, tending each mind in the separation until the separation is no longer needed.
Mizpah, the watchtower: the point of oversight in the mind, the higher awareness that keeps watch where trust between the parts has failed. The absence between them: the seeming gap of separation, the distance across which a greater care still holds both.
Christian Psychology lens
Is there someone I could hold kindly from a distance instead of either fighting with or cutting off?
Some things are joined by being left apart. Forcing closeness where there is none breaks what distance would have kept whole.
Goodwill does not require proximity. You can wish someone well across a room, a city, or years of silence, and the wish is real.
A peace that holds is better than a victory that settles the argument. Keep the peace even when the trust is not back yet.
